Are The Sidi Crossfire Motocross Boots The Best On The Market?

Sidi Crossfire Boots are arguably the finest motocross boots on the market. Of course, this might be a somewhat bias opinion as they are what I personally use. I snapped a buckle on my Tech 8′s, and a buddy of mine lent me an old set of Sidi Crossfire Boots for a weekend of racing, I was amazed. They were 3 years old, yet they fitted perfectly and were very flexible. I got straight onto the web and had a look how much they were. $550 was a bit of a shock to the system at first, but then I did the maths. I buy a set of Tech 8′s every 12-15 months, picking them up for about $350 each time. Now my friends were in perfect condition after three years of use, so technically, it would be a money saver in the long run.

Anyway, to cut a long story short, I set my aim on a pair of Sidi Crossfire Boots and have not looked back since. I have problems with my ankles, which means I find it quite hard to shift fast, as most boots don’t offer much suppleness. If you check out a picture of the newer Sidi Crossfire Boots you’ll see they have redesigned the ankle area with a hinged section. This actually makes an enormous difference and even if you don’t have issues with your ankles, it still makes riding that tiny bit easier!

As a quick heads up most dealers charge $550-600 depending on whether you have the standard or SRS boot. I checked round a few internet based dealers, and the prices were the same. Then I checked eBay and Amazon – the same dealers are selling on there for $450-500!

The Sidi Crossfire is produced in full grain leather with Lorica inserts on back joint and front tongue for better comfort and flexibility and is lined in Cambrelle and a protective Teflon treated air mesh. Cambrelle due its structure ensures a rapid drying after the boot becomes wet or sweaty and this helps to prevent the build up of mould and therefore extending the lifespan of the boot. The Teflon air mesh allows humidity to escape again helping to stop the growth of mould.

The Sidi Crossfire contains the patented thermoplastic front shin plate which is anatomically shaped and replaceable in the event of damage.

Four micro adjustable and independently working buckles on each boot have memory regulation straps and the clips are easily replaced if required. This system of independent buckles allows the boots to fit all shapes of leg and feet so giving the greatest comfort for each individual rider. The lower clips have been moved further inwards for better closure and the lower clip now features a spoiler to repel dirt and stones.

For riders with larger calves Sidi has patented an adjustable calf system, which allows the rider to adjust the diameter of the boot at the calf. The calf system includes a replaceable inner polyurethane plate which has a heat resistant rubber insert to guard the leg from the exhaust.

The flex system has two circlips holding the boot together allowing greater movement and a more normal position on the footpegs. With that and the second joint above the ankle joint the rider has more adjustment to give a more comfortable fit.

The upper boot leg is only assembled with screws and is totally stitch free and replaceable, while inside of the boot has a replaceable rigid nylon insert to protect the leg and foot.
