This has got to be one of the best weekend city breaks around.

It is easy to get to from a wide range of European airports.

This is always a good start as it does away with a long drive to begin your break and it also cuts down costs. Of course some may be coming from much further afield so it is a good idea to do a 2 or 3 centre break.

There are also many European coach tours, which visit all the main cities in Andalucia.

If you are looking for good travel to Europe deals it is always best to spend time searching around the Internet and using the online tools to build your own break.

Granada is a spectacular city as it is built around the high point of the Alhambra.

This ancient citadel is the main reason most people initially plan their visit to Granada and it is not a disappointment. It is also much larger than most people realise.

There are a few things to consider when planning your visit to the Alhambra.

The best advice is to buy your tickets on line before you go, as the queues are invariably long and the numbers per session are limited so if you are in the queue and the limit is reached you have queued for nothing.

Also it is quite a climb to reach the entrance as you would expect, but there are buses from the centre of Granada.

It is impossible to describe fully how wonderful the Alhambra is.

It has streets and shops, hotels and a palace besides the pools and gardens it is famous for.
The Generalife gardens are a must see but they are a little way from the centre of the Alcazar.
Some of the more famous areas i.e. the Nazareen Palace will have a timed entrance on your ticket and it is important to stick to this.

Wear comfy shoes, as there is a lot of walking.

There are also night visits, which usually mean you can be there for sunset.

If the Alhambra were the only reason to visit Granada it would be worth going, but as with so may cities they have diverse attractions. For example the Cathedral is spectacular and it is where the tombs are of Ferdinand and Isabella who conquered Granada in 1492. Also, as with many Cathedrals there is plenty of wonderful art and artefacts so allow plenty of time for your visit.

It is an excellent city for walking around, as it is not too big.

There are lots of narrow streets or ‘calles’ with Tapas bars which are an especially good way to start off an evening, which by the way could be a trip to the caves to experience the Flamenco.

How would you like to enjoy Granada holidays?

I can’t imagine many answering ‘no’.

The city has so much to offer. You may just visit when the Medieval market is on when the whole of the square in front of the Cathedral looks, for a short while as though it has slipped back 500 years. There are spit roasts, stalls selling crafts brought in by the people who have actually made the jewellery, food etc that they are selling. There are stalls selling toys of the period and a group of musicians playing medieval instruments stroll around the market.

Unless you want to travel outside Granada a weekend is just the right length for a first visit and if you fall ‘under its spell’ you can always return.

When you are planning a cheap holiday destination, you might want to see the beautiful attractions in Italy, Greece, Germany, France or Croatia. As according to planet travel guide, there is no better place to take a vacation than to an area with so much history and culture as well as historical architectural that Europe is famous for all over the world.
You could visit Athens, Greece on your cheap holiday and visit the Acropolis or the Syntagma Square. Maybe you like Italy for a vacation where you can visit Rome and see the Trevi Fountain and the Vatican Museums. You might even enjoy Munich, Germany where you can visit the English Garden and the Residenz Royal Palace. Wherever you visit for you holiday destination will fill you with wonderful memories that will stay with you a lifetime.

The cheap holiday destinations to these areas are spectacular anytime of the year, but when you plan it around the holidays, you are giving yourself a little extra joy of experiencing how other areas celebrate the holidays. Whether you choose Germany, Italy, Greece or any of the other European destinations, you will experience something that cannot be experienced at home during the holidays. You have adventure as well as excitement as you walk through the area and experience its holiday excitement. This the perfect cheap holiday one can experience. What a nice present to give yourself and your family.

Vacation time and the kids have decided they want to go skiing this year. I know what you are thinking, expensive. Well it doesn’t have to be. There are a variety of things you can do to save money with overseas adventure travel. Many resorts cater to families and offer attractive deals in an attempt to get your business. With all the information available deciding on a resort is easier than ever.

The first place to look when planning a ski holiday is the internet. Almost every ski area will have a website. First of all, decide what area you would like to go. Do you prefer the cruising runs of the east or the high peaks and open bowls you discover west? Once you have decided this you can start to look for facilities the resorts in you preferred area offer. If you have any beginners going on the vacation with you then a ski school is one feature you should give high priority to. Your whole family will enjoy themselves more this way.

The type of runs the ski resort you decide is also important. If the members of your family are mixed in skiing ability then the resort should have a variety of terrain as well. This way the beginners can ski the green runs while the more advances skiers can enjoy more challenging terrain. Any snow boarders in the group will probably enjoy a terrain park. Many resorts also offer other winter activities like sleigh rides and ice skating. All of these can be a fine accent to your holiday.

According to cruise travel agent, good lodging is equally important as good skiing since you will be spending 1/3 of your vacation in the hotel or condo. Having a kitchen unit is going to allow you to save a bundle on meals. I know you would rather not spend time on your vacation cooking and doing dishes. However the cost to eat at many ski resorts is going to cost over $100 a day for a family of four. Also try and find accommodations with a separate bedroom, at least for you and your spouse or partner. Nothing wrong with some privacy while on holidays.

Once you narrow your search to 2 or 3 resorts then you can start to look for reviews from other skiers. There are many sites and forums where users can submit their experiences while at these resorts. This is a great resource that provides an unbiased view of that resort. It can also help you decide completely where you want to go.

Taking the time with your family to discover their wishes for your next vacation can allow you to plan ahead so that everyone truly enjoys their holiday.

Summer is the perfect time of year to travel to Russia. In this issue of the newsletter, we will focus on events in Moscow and Saint Petersburg, two of the most popular tourist destinations in Russia.

The average temperature in Moscow and Saint Petersburg in the summer months is in the comfortable range of 65-70 degrees Fahrenheit, though short spells of much hotter weather, in the 80′s, are possible. In addition, Saint Petersburg’s northern location makes possible its famous “white nights” in June and July, when twilight is the darkest that it gets outside. The atmosphere in Saint Petersburg during the white nights is quite festive. Expect to see many people and hear music in the streets of the city, regardless of the time of night. Summer is also a time of numerous festivals, concerts, and special museum exhibitions.

Moscow-Summer
The traditional Russian folk holiday Troitsa will be celebrated throughout June in all the major parks of Moscow with various craft exhibitions and musical performances.

On June 4th, 5th, and 6th, a variety of concerts and performances will take place throughout Moscow in celebration of the 200th birthday of Alexander Pushkin. Pushkin is considered Russia’s greatest poet.

On June 12th and 13th, look for major public celebrations marking the declaration of independence of the Russian republic.

Don’t miss the Moscow International Beer Festival in July of 2010, which will take place in Luzhniki Park.

Moscow’s Darwin Museum will mark the International Ecology Day on August 5th with a variety of special lectures and exhibits.

The VVTS will host an exposition of folk art in September of 2010. Make sure to also visit the exhibit on the theme of “New Technologies in the Service of Mankind,” showing at the museum at the same time.

The Expo center at the Museum of Architecture will celebrate the International Architect’s Day on September 4th, 2010. Many of the world’s leading architects will be present for the festivities.

Moscow currently boasts over 37,000 hotel rooms available for visiting tourists. Although Russian currency fluctuates, the dollar prices have remained stable over the past couple of years. You will need to have your accommodations reserved and paid for in order to obtain a visa for your trip. Allow 6-8 weeks for the planning of your itinerary and the arrangement of proper documents.

While visiting Moscow this summer, keep in mind that the city has phased out the use of metro tokens in favor of magnetically stripped cards. A card good for 60 rides costs $5, while a monthly pass that will allow you unlimited bus and subway use is $11.

Those of you planning to visit both Saint Petersburg and Moscow this summer will enjoy the newly completed improvements to the train service between the two cities. The trip will be considerably faster as well as more comfortable.

Saint Petersburg-Summer 2010

Thrifty travelers will be glad to learn that the Economist Intelligence Unit has ranked Saint Petersburg as the least expensive destination in Europe out of all the larger cities.

The International Jazz Festival “White Nights Swing” will take place in Saint Petersburg June10th-20th. The International Documentary Film Festival “Message to Man” will take place June 17th-24th. Also in June, look for the International Ballet Competition “Vaganova-Priz” and the City Festival of Street Theaters.

Traveling to the suburbs of Saint Petersburg, you will find several exciting events in the palace-park complex of Peterhof. The Festival of the Summer Season opening, which includes the ceremonial “Solemn Opening of Fountains” takes place May 29th-31st. The International Festival of Fireworks in Peterhof is in August and the Festival of the Fountains is on September 11th.
