Quit Smoking Cigarettes That Adequately Manacle Your Smoking Lust

Quit SmokingQuit Smoking Laser Therapy If you want to quit smoking, Zyban, a prescription drug sold under the generic name Bupropion hydrochloride, is one option that your doctor may suggest. Included in this site is Chantix information (the only other prescription drug that is currently approved by the FDA for smoking cessation), Zyban information, stop smoking facts and a brief summary of choices for those who want to quit.

According to the latest Gallup poll, 21% of American adults currently smoke. That is the lowest the figure has been since the annual poll began in 1944. It’s good news, but it still means that there are a lot of people out there who need to stop smoking Zyban is considered a first choice medication for people who want to quit.

Nicotine replacement therapies, both over the counter and prescribed, and Chantix are among the other first choice medications. The drugs Nortriptyline and Clonidine are sometimes prescribed for smoking cessation. They have never been approved by the FDA for this purpose, but a part of the US Public Health Service called the Tobacco Use and Dependence Clinical Practice Guideline Panel recommends either drug as a second-choice medication.

Before it was approved to help people stop smoking, Zyban was (and still is) an anti-depressant known as Wellbutrin. In 2006, more than 21 million prescriptions for Wellbutrin, Zyban and the generic Bupropion, making it the fourth-most prescribed antidepressant in the United States. The biggest problem; it can cause seizures. The advantage; unlike other antidepressants, it does not cause weight gain or sexual dysfunction.

Chantix is only prescribed to help people quit smoking; Zyban or Bupropion may be prescribed for other purposes. Both Chantix and Zyban have been shown to partially block or reduce the pleasurable effects of cigarette smoking and reduce some cravings for nicotine. The drugs do not contain nicotine and so may be advantageous for use by people who have tried patches or gums and found that they were useless.

Some surveys have shown that Chantix is more effective than Zyban. Some studies have shown that hypnosis, counseling and/or lifestyle changes are just as effective as the drugs.

According to the latest Zyban information quit smoking programs, such as counseling or support groups increase the chance that a person will quit. In other words, this drug and others like them are not “magic pills”. Several studies have shown that combining nicotine replacement therapy (gums or patches) with Zyban use does not increase the likelihood that a person will be able to quit and/or “stay quit”. Motivation appears to be one of the biggest factors of all.

There is no question that nicotine is addictive, but withdrawal symptoms typically last only a few days. It is the habitual use of the cigarette as a routine that keeps people smoking. It is the development of new habits, concerns about personal health and the health of loved ones that helps people quit.
