The only side effect of an Ecigarette is that you are still putting nicotine into your body, they are marketed as a safer alternative to smoking but it’s not known yet the amount on nicotine they deliver.
They are not allowed to be marketed as a cessation to smoking like the patches or gum otherwise they would be governed by the food and drugs acts.
As far as there is no carbon monoxide, tar or other harmful chemicals are concerned they certainly have little side effects, they are also more tolerable to other non smokers around and therefore not covered by the draconian smoking ban.

As far as side effects, you can get them nicotine free or with different levels of nicotine, but this is nothing compared to the toxic chemicals and carcinogens they add to most major tobacco brands. Although I don’t recommend a non-smoker to start using them because it is still a form of a bad habit and why start now.
Read this Green Smoke Review for more information on them, they are reputable for their customer service and quality. I believe they are working on or already have their product manufactured in the U.S.

Side effects I have noticed in the past 5 months:
Breathing better
Sense of smell improved
sleeping better
car, house, clothes don’t stink
no ashtrays
That’s a few off the top of my head.
Check out some forums to learn more about e-cigs from real people without the sales pitches.

The FDA is currently investigating the effects of electronic cigarettes. So right now. Nobody knows. At least not officially. Because the FDA is the end all be all.
However, here’s what we do know. Electronic cigarettes contain nicotine and perhaps trace amounts of other chemicals that may be harmful (or at least harmful in higher concentration).
What seems to be absolutely clear is that electronic cigarettes are much safer than regular cigarettes.

E-Cigarettes still contain nicotine which is highly addictive. Besides that I am not aware of any side effects. E-Cigarettes certainly contain less carcinogens than tobacco cigs …

The side effects would be the same negative side effects that come from nicotine use. Obviously there are much worse things in cigarettes than nicotine, but that doesn’t mean that nicotine is great for you! Of course, technically speaking there is nicotine in tomatoes, and nobody seems to be concerned about the long-term side effects of them!
With a new product such as this, it would be hard to know the exact long-term effects. However, many doctors I know of are quite happy to hear that their patients switched from cigarettes to e-cigs.
Good luck!

I tossed my regular cigarettes a week after trying an electronic cigarette. The only “side effect” is that it dries out the throat a bit – nothing a drink of water can’t cure.
Big Pharma and Big Tobacco are being threatened by the new smoking device and have pulled out all stops to shut them down. The FDA, which receives hundreds of millions of dollars from the tobacco and pharmaceutical industry are hardly unbiased judges of the devices. They claim that one of the seventeen cartridges they tested contained an immeasurable trace amount of a carcinogen – the same carcinogen that is present in every single Nicotrol patch sold. They also sounded the alarm by stating that some of the e-cigarette cartridges”contained diethylene glycol – a substance found in antifreeze.” They failed to point out that the same substance is found in innocuous products like cough syrup, mouthwash and toothpaste.
The FDA is so desperate to stop this new product which it cannot tax, that it is begging people who have used the device to send them any negative information they can about their experiences. They have not asked for any positive responses. They have also refused to release their testing data and methods.
I used to cough up all kinds of disgusting stuff every morning as a result of my 20+ years of a pack-and-a-half a day cigarette smoking. I haven’t coughed at all since switching to the electronic cigarette.
I will be posting a story soon on my blog (listed below) about the twelve studies and tests that have been done thus far on the devices – none of which has shown them to be harmful and many of which have labeled them as a “safer alternative” to tobacco cigarettes.
