This list is the personal favourites of a fence contractor in Chicago, Illinois, who shares them with us today. With so much to do in Chicago, Illinois, it was hard for him to choose his top picks. But here they are. What do you think?

One of the most prestigious aquariums in the world is the John G. Shedd Aquarium, part of Chicago’s famous Museum Campus. In addition to the incredible displays of fish from around the world, you can watch jellyfish bob around and even sea dragons as their lacy parts drift and float. In all, there are 22,000 aquatic animals – fish, reptiles, amphibians, invertibrates, and even birds and mammals. This non-profit foundation, open since 1930, is dedicated to both public education and conservation, helping on a number of projects to protect endangered species and bringing people into contact with an undersea world that might just as well be another planet to most of us. It is impossible to spend an hour in the Shedd Aquarium without being filled with wonder and awe. It is just that spectacular.

Hats off to Chicago Food Planet. This is a unique offers unique food tasting and culinary cultural walking tours around some of Chicago’s historic neighborhoods. They describe it as a non-touristy, local experience so you feel like a native Chicagoan. They lead people of all fitness levels from one ethnic restaurant to another, all the way recounting tails of food and history, as well as architecture and culture. This is a unique hands-on (and moth-on!) experience that most visitors to Chicago overlook.

The Art Institute of Chicago is one of the most important art museums in the USA, featuring also a well-known art school. Probably the most important painting it houses is the ever famous “American Gothic”, but it is a very large museum covering a variety of art forms, from the Grand Masters to modern architecture to armour and weaponry from the age of chivalry.

Who would ever come up with a chocolate tour? Well, somebody did and she deserves to get a little more attention than she does. Valerie Beck describes herself as “Chief Executive Chocolate Lover”, and she offers a guided walking tour of all the finest chocolate establishments in Chicago’s Loop. This makes an ideal outing for both tourists and locals, because who wouldn’t want to taste chocolate. If you have kids or a sweet tooth, this is a one-of-a-kind tour that will make your visit to Chicago memorable.

You will want to eat at the Mambo Cafe. “Yum” Need I say more?

Chicago is home to two zoos, which is very impressive. The larger one, is just a little out of the way, but well worth the detour. The Brookfield Zoo stretches across 216 acres, including both interior and exterior exhibits. Since it first opened its doors in 1934, (when it rewrote the rules on keeping animals in cages by using moats and ditches) the Brookfield Zoo has grown to include over 450 species of animals. Some of the more intriguing exhibits now on display are Feathers and Scales, Tropic World (including animals from rainforests of three continents), The Swamp and The Living Coast. There are also two different African habitats.

As we said earlier, there really are so many things to do in Chicago, Illinois, that it is hard to choose just those few. We did not even mention…

- Soldier Field
- Buckingham Fountain
- Chicago Blues Festival
- Frank Lloyd Wright Home and Studio
- Medieval Times Dinner & Tournament
- The Hancock Observatory
- hundreds of delicious restaurants

If you want to do more than just visit, you might want to find a nice little home and get a nice little fence, such as a Chicago dog fence or a pool fence, as well as a little flower garden. Why move to Chicago, you ask? So that you can keep visiting these awesome Chicago landmarks and attractions every day!

Uncle Alton here. When I am not giving people advice about which Outdoor Electric Grills to buy, I love to travel and eat.

I am especially fond of Chicago.

What a great food town Chicago has turned into. You can find everything from great great street carts to the highest of high end restaurants — and everything in between. If you crave ethnic food, there is probably a restaurant serving in close by.

In fact is it is so easy to find great food in Chicago today that you can’t swing a dead cat on most main thoroughfares without hitting at least 2 or 3 restaurants that have stars by their names in the newspapers, magazines and guide books.

It is a little harder to find great food for a reasonable price. You can drop a Ben Franklin in many of these restaurants for lunch. Without wine.

But, even though it is difficult, it isn’t impossible. Not if you have your old Uncle Alton for a guide that is.

If you want to eat at home tonight, consider an easy-to-use, convenient and inexpensive Outdoor Electric Grills. If you are traveling to the Windy City anytime soon (or if you live there) then keep reading.

Here are 3 of my top choices for great food at reasonable prices in Chicago.

Amarinds

This wonderful Thai spot is a great place to start. And stay.

Order the honey-drizzled crab rolls and the “decorative pancake” as soon as you sit down. You won’t regret it and it will give you time to choose from all the Northern Thai specialties on the menu.

Try the ground chicken in Chiang Mai Larb (but what out for the spicy heat!) or the pad kee mao with wide noodles and veggies coated in a tamarind/chili sauce.

Wine and beer are available if you choose.

Amarinds – 6822 W. North

Chickpea

The Palestinian cuisine is this little hot spot will win over anyone. Even the skeptic in your crew who thinks they don’t like Middle Eastern food.

The kibbeh appetizer with yogurt cucumber salad is a great way to start. Then try the tabouleh, my favorite baba ghannouj and the huge fafafel plate. Don’t miss the hummus topped with grilled beef tenderloin and pine nuts and the sumac-spiced roast chicken (available on Saturdays.)

End with a piece of traditional baklava.

No alcohol available or allowed. Cash only.

Chickpea – 2018 W. Chicago

Maiz

The specialty here is Mexican street food. The taste is authentic and so is the price — cheap.

The corn mesa is made on-site for picaditas, huaraches, tlacoyos, corundas and more. Tacos and enchiladas are available for the less adventurous as well as a wide variety of salsas and fillings.

Finish with goat’s milk crepes with walnuts.

Beer and cocktails are served. It’s cash only.

Maiz – 1041 N. California

If you’re planning to take your car abroad with you, you need to know about a number of different things regarding your insurance policy (and breakdown cover) that are likely to change from when you’re driving in the United Kingdom. One main thing to check is which countries you’re covered in, as although most UK insurance policies will cover you in all EU countries some may not and you may need to take out additional insurance if you’re not covered in your destination nation.

When you set off make sure you have all the required documents. When driving in non-EU countries in Europe, you generally need to be in possession of a green card. This is an internationally recognized document that shows that the holder has the minimum insurance that is legally required to drive in the country. An alternative to the green card is a Certificate of Motor Insurance which will do the same job. You do not need a green card in EU countries, or when driving in Croatia, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway or Switzerland.

While standard policies will cover you for driving in Europe, if you’re going for an extended period of 90 days or more then you may need to get extra cover from your provider. Make sure to let them know your plans well in advance and you can fill in any necessary forms to make sure you’re fully covered.

If you do get in touch with your insurance company about your trip abroad, you may find that they are willing to give you a specific breakdown policy cover, which his recommended, for your time away. This will include details of an English phone line to help you in emergencies and maybe also a vehicle replacement while you’re abroad.

Your car insurance company will also be able to advise you on other things which you may not have thought about, from paperwork to places where you can go to get local help.

So it’s useful to speak with your insurance company, just to make sure that you have all of the relevant paperwork and to get tips on things you hadn’t thought of before.

If you drive abroad without the relevant paperwork or insurance you could end up in a lot of trouble, something that would be deepened if you don’t speak the local language. With the proper planning in place you can relax a little on your trip knowing that if anything does happen while you’re away, you’re at least covered and you won’t need to spend precious time and money trying to sort things out.

Cape Town has a lot of cultural diversity. That is the reason why you will find many ways of entertainment during your stay in this beautiful city. Depending on your preferences you can hang out at one of the several trendy hotspots and Cape Town restaurants but there is also something for the ones more interested in Cape Town’s culture and history.

Table Mountain

If you do not venture up Table Mountain during your stay in Cape Town, you have not seen South Africa. Your visit on Table Mountain should be the highlight of your holiday in South Africa. You have the option of taking the cable car which will get you up to the top in no time. But for the more adventurous folk, there are many hiking trails leading up the mountain.

Art

There are several Art galleries in Cape Town. Most of these can found on Kloof Street in central Cape Town. There are also many different restaurants in Kloof Street that you should definitely try out. Other art galleries are located inside the Castle of Good Hope. Here you will also get to know the history of the Mother City. Other small and interesting art galleries are scattered all over central Cape Town. A little exploring never hurt anyone – did it?

Nightlife

After dark, there are several nightspots you can go to. There is something for everyone: Nightclubs, cocktail bars, pubs, lounges, cinemas or even the theatre. If you are looking to party until the early hours of the morning you should make your way to Long Street or to the suburb of de Waterkant which is also located centrally in Cape Town. Long Street is an entire street filled with bars and nightclubs. Sometimes the entire street is even blocked off for a night-long street party. A popular hangout spot for students is Claremont. This is located near the University of Cape Town.

Beaches

There are around 22 beaches in the vicinity of Cape Town: One more beautiful than the next one. On Boulders beach you are actually able to swim alongside penguins which call the Cape their home and nesting grounds. Clifton beach must be one of the most popular beaches during the summer. It is always packed and always a lot of fun. Camps Bay is very popular as well. Here you can look after your tan during the day and in the afternoon you can make your way to the promenade and relax at one of the trendy cafes or restaurants that are available. Camps Bay also has a notable nightlife vibe. So make sure you stick around long enough to experiences that. If you are looking to go surfing, you should make your way to Hout Bay or Kalk Bay.

In conclusion, if Cape Town is your travel destination, you will find it very difficult to become bored. There is always something to do and something new to learn and explore. Enjoy your visit and make your way back soon to this beautiful city.
