Baby Diner from Lil’ Diner LLC

I gave this interesting little gadget to a friend of mine because I don’t have any kids(yet). My friends little 2 year old monster apparently loves to throw his food and fling his plate on a nightly bases during dinner. I got a call from my buddy last night after he said he was going to give the Baby Diner it’s first test run. He said the Baby Diner worked just as it should and was a no-brainer to set it up.

He said he took it out of the package and used the suction cups to fix it in place on his boy’s high chair table, then attached the plate to the top suction cup. The only thing he mentioned was to be careful lifting the plate back from off of the Baby Diner because with the strong suction cup and any food left on the plate might get flung into the air so he said to pull slowly or slide the device to the edge of the table to release the suction cup before lifting.

From the sound of it my friend will be now using the Baby Diner every night to avoid the flying objects the little guy used to be good at doing. As happy as he was over the phone from the results of using the Baby Diner I give it a big thumbs up!

I just checked out the Baby Diner Website and it looks like they normally sell it for $14.99 but for a limited time they are giving 50% off! So if you are planning on getting one now will be your best time, good luck.

8-25-10, Big John Lipscomb

Between 1990 and 1999 my wife and I home schooled our children at home in a 320 square foot straw bale cabin with no electricity or running water in the mountains of Montana. In a world full of technology today, it seems odd but my daughters learned how to read and write by candle light. Of course they learned much more than that, but being without the traditional distractions like television and telephones, we were able to focus on school studies and the compatible homestead chores.

We approached teaching our own children in an original but we think effective manner. First, we believed that education is not only math and English but in general, education should be about raising well rounded and capable young people. Thus it is essential to include training in the outside world also such as work ethics and personal social skills. A matter of fact, many parents asked us as their children screamed and fought because they were tired or hungry, if we were shortchanging our children by not having them interact with other children eight hours per day. We just smiled and politely said, no. Once in a while we would park outside a public school while the children were on recess and watch the heathens abuse each other until the bell rang while teachers proudly looked on. Then we would drive to the library and read and learn new things. And that brings me to our second key to having a successful home school off the grid. If parents took the time in the beginning to inspire their children to learn, showing them how incredible it is to learn new things, the children will value learning and as a home teacher you will almost never struggle to motivate them because they are motivated to learn.

The majority of parents that struggle teaching their children have failed to convince their children that learning is fun. Therefore, they spend much of the time frustrated and distraught. On day one, my wife and I took our two children to the library and had them sit still at the table while we went from shelf to isle pulling books and bringing them back to the table and discussed some of the incredible things we were discovering. We completely ignored our children and conversed about the size of the moon and George Washington and a thousand other topics. Our children sat and felt they were being cheated by not being allowed to learn such earth shattering things. After four long hours, we set them loose and have never had to motivate them to learn since.

Oh, and our children did attend public high school and quickly discovered how far ahead they were of their peers. They say that attending public school was the biggest mistake they ever made in their short lives. We, their mother and I think it was great for them to see the reality of what public school produces.

Play is critical in helping children develop both mental and physical skills, and toys are an ideal way we encourage them to express their creativity. Unfortunately, many of today’s toys do not promote the same level of creativity and exercise that the classics of yesteryear provided. If you are concerned that your child is not learning all that they should, then consider adding a few old-time toys to their collection. Not only will you help them develop more, but you will be able to relive those moments of simple happiness as your own children enjoy playing with those same toys that were your favorites so many years ago.

Too many parents look at the toys they grew up with and think their kids will just find them old-fashioned. Perhaps they have forgotten how much fun they had themselves with those great toys. Another common misconception is that many of these toys are unsafe, though modern technology has made many of them much safer. In fact, many of the toys we grew up with are still popular with young children who have a chance to try them out. Such popular outdoor activities as baseball, roller skating, bike riding and even hula hoops are still a sure winner with most children.

One great retro toy that has been increasing in popularity recently is the all-steel pedal car. Today’s versions include some extra safety measures that you will not remember from your old model, but they still provide that same wonderful thrill of riding around the neighborhood in your own car. Many of today’s cars hark back to our own childhood, with designs borrowed from those classic 1960′s models. There are few modern toys that can match an all-steel pedal car for durability, ease of use and just plain old fun.

For toys to enjoy inside, consider a set of Lego for your child. Lego has tailored their line for girls and boys alike to enjoy various building possibilities, including sets that will make luxury homes or palaces. However, even simpler versions of building block, such as the wooden building block, can still bestow a wealth of imagination and creativity. With so many technologically advanced toys on the market today, parents can forget that children will use virtually anything for play.

Wooden play objects are another classic toy that can never go out of style. Unfortunately, most parents do not realize that wooden toys are still popular and, even further, that they are still available for purchase. Many Internet stores sell a variety of wooden toys, including building blocks, rocking horses, and doll houses. As enjoyable as those toys were years ago, there is little reason to think that kids of today would not enjoy them just as well. As years pass, there is no doubt that the list of “classic toys” will continue to grow, as more durable and loved toys enter the market. However, the toys above have surely earned their place on the list, after being loved by children for many generations.
