I wouldn't mind one near my home because:
1) i can get clean energy
2) they aren't dangerous (like nuclear)
3) they don't pollute (like coal fired)
4) they are quieter than wind.

Far and away my number one choice would be commercial wind turbines.
Second choice would be a solar plant, but we live in a poor area for it. I live in the high mountain desert are of Idaho. Desert sound great for solar, right? Not really. We get too much snow here. We also have VERY high windstorms, and micro burst tornatoes. They would not "play well" with a solar plant.
By the way, most people do not realize this about commercial solar plants, but you do realize they are steam plants, right? The solar panels are used the heat the water in a giant water tower, which makes steam, and drives the turbine.
Solar plants also have a fairly large area they cover. They are a pretty good place for some smaller gound dwelling critters to live, but not too friendly to a lot of other wildlife. Raptors have a very difficult time hunting amoung them, because of the reflection of the solar panels, and simply because they cannot see prey under the panels.
Larger animals are sometimes fenced out, since they might damage the solar panels.
In some desert areas I've been through I think commercial solar plants would be a wonderful option! Nevada especially comes to mind. In many of the deserts there it would actually help the desert wildlife, since shade is such a premium. Solar plants there could actually help increase some of the wildlife.
Commercial solar power also costs seven times more to produce than commercial wind power.
I'm honestly for both powers, I just want to see them built in areas that really make sence to have them.

well, i wouldnt complain, they are completely silent and they make no polution, plus a solar powerplant shows a city trying to eliminate polution, and, it would mean i live somewhere sunny, not here (welcome to Ohio, is it raining yet?)
