your right it is tough but you only have to do it once

If I were you, I would take other measures in between if you want to maximize the energy. For example, you should replace all your incandescent bulbs with florescents. Caulking around your windows and doors will help. Another thing is a green switch that cuts the juice to all appliances but the refrigerator. If you really want to do something big, I recommend looking into solar water heating. That will make your energy bill go down tremendously.
